Peel off a pimple patch and the middle has turned white. What did it pull out?

Most pimple patches are made of hydrocolloid, a gummy gel used for wound care. It soaks up fluid, like pus and oil, and swells as it fills. The patch also covers the spot, so you can’t pick at it and it’s protected from germs.

But patches work best on spots near the surface. Blackheads and deep, painful cysts are out of reach, and a patch won’t stop the next pimple from forming.
